Well, well, well, how time flies. Thirty years ago today, on January 27th, 1991, the greatest Super Bowl ever played took place at the same site of this year’s big game, although it was then known simply as ‘Tampa Stadium’. The New York Giants defeated the Buffalo Bills by the score of 20-19 when Bills kicker Scott Norwood missed a 47-yard field goal in the final seconds. To be sure, there have been plenty of other Super Bowls that it could be argued were more exciting than that particular game, but any time the ‘wrong’ team wins — in other words, the team that won simply because the other team choked at the end, etc (this is one reason why I have little interest in college football), that takes some of the luster off the game, in my opinion. Super Bowls that fall into this category include both of San Francisco’s wins over Cincinnati, in 1982 and ‘89 and New England’s victories over Seattle, when the Pats won only Collapse

It is officially Senior Bowl week and Brian Flores still hasn’t filled his vacant offensive coordinator spot and he doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to name one. Flores stated he is still in the process of finding the teams newest OC and feels the players are in good hands with Eric Studesville and George Godsey this week. Perhaps Flores is not only evaluating the players this week, but is also seeing how Studesville and Godsey handles offensive duties. Those two are still in the running for the OC spot and we shouldn’t rule out any outside candidates. I don’t care who it is, just as long as Brian Flores can find the right guy to guide the Dolphins offense.

The NFC Championship Game this afternoon will feature the Buffalo Bills, the away team, and the Kansas City Cheifs, the home team, in the winner takes all game with the winner advancing to the Super Bowl. Most of the focus in this game as was with the NFC’s Championship Game will surround the two starting quarterbacks. Much of the talk leading up to this game has been about the Chiefs starter Patrick Mahomes who had to leave last week's game, a game the Chiefs won over the Cleveland Browns, with a concussion. He then had to enter the NFL’s concussion protocol which had put his status for this game in question.
While Mahomes was limited in practice all this past week, due to the concussion protocol, Mahomes announced on Friday that he had cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and would be ready to start in today's game. Today’s game will mark Mahomes third consecutive time to play in the AFC’s Championship game. For the Bills' starting Collapse

We still don’t know who Brian Flores will name as the Miami Dolphins' next offensive coordinator, but that hasn’t stopped the team from announcing several key hires to the offensive coaching staff.
According to the team’s official website, the Miami Dolphins have hired former Cleveland Browns QB and Central Michigan offensive coordinator Charlie Frye to be the team’s next QB coach.

But one thing that can’t go unnoticed, is Frye’s relationship with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. A relationship that started many years ago, according to Bucky Brooks of NFL.com.

The Dolphins had one of the better defenses in the NFL this season and unfortunately wasted that units efforts by missing the postseason. The offense was inconsistent with Tua Tagovailoa leading the offense for most of the season as a rookie. Perhaps if the team had some better options on offense, things could have worked out differently.
Looking at the four teams left in the postseason, all four have the best quarterbacks from this season and plenty of weapons at their disposal. Josh Allen went from a laughing stock to one of the better quarterbacks in the league, thanks to his team surrounding him with playmakers to help their young quarterback succeed. That’s what the Dolphins need to do this offseason and hopefully they can bring in the right players to help make the Collapse

1 DAY AGO - Photo by Kathryn Riley/Getty Images
Last night’s post was about the downfall of the Patriots since Tom Brady left for a warmer climate. Once Brady left the Patriots were looking for a starter and decided to sign former Carolina Panthers starter Cam Newton to be their starter, an experiment with mixed results. Cam looked great at times and not so much many more times. This has many of the NFL “experts” around the league suggesting that the Patriots will try and trade up and select one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft. The Pats are more known for trading down but this is for the most important position in the game. Now, these rumors are just educated guesses at best IMO as no one knows what Bill Belichick is going to do from week to week except for Bill Belichick but the idea that they would want to move up for a QB is not ridiculous given the mixed results we saw out of Cam Newton this season.
So this leads us to the Phinsider Question Of The Day. The question is Collapse

After all, Smith is exactly what the Dolphins need to transform their woeful passing attack, AND he comes fully-equipped with years of experience catching passes from Miami’s franchise quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa.
He’s also coming off one of the greatest seasons from a WR in college football history.

This past season was a good one for Miami Dolphins fans. Sure we missed the playoffs again but we could all see the massive amount of improvement in this team and the team's roster overall not to mention much better coaching than we have seen in these parts in a long time. With a good number of draft picks this year things look to only get that much better. The other thing that the Dolphins could finally be happy about was the apparent downfall of the team that has ruled the AFC East longer than some of our site members have been alive. The Patriots looked flat out lost this past season when quarterback Tom Brady left, moving onto the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who will be in the Super Bowl while the New England Patriots were one of the teams that were finally sitting at home watching the playoffs from their couches.
So the question seems to have cropped up about the greatness of Bill Belichick. Is the hoody actually all that or was his greatness Collapse

Later today, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game and the Green Bay Packers will welcome in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the NFC Championship game. Starting with the Chiefs, a pair of former Dolphins starting quarterbacks are included on the team. Chad Henne, Miami’s 2008 second-round draft pick, spent four years with the Dolphins recording 7,114 passing yards on a 60.7 percent completion rate with 31 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. Miami had a 13-18 record in games Henne started. After a stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Henne joined the Chiefs in 2018, appearing in four games with one start, picking up 277 yards with two touchdowns over that span. As a fellow long-suffering Miami Dolphins fan, I too have long awaited the day that the shine might wear off of the New England Patriots and they would no longer rule the AFC East. Most of us of course saw this dream going right along with our own Dolphins ascending to the top of the AFC East and once again being a team that might each and every year challenge for a spot in the Super Bowl. Well, the first part had finally happened but alas we as a fan base, despiting feeling that our team is much better than it once was, are still waiting on that ascension to the top of our division.
Instead of the Dolphins, it’s a nemesis from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, the Buffalo Bills that have risen to the top in the absence of the Patriots. Given our final game of the season against those very Bills, the Dolphins, as a team, have a good way to still go before overtaking the division. Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith is sure to be a polarizing prospect heading into the 2020 NFL draft.
But now, with a trip to Mobile, Alabama, slated for early next week, the whispers surrounding Smith to the Dolphins have gotten louder than ever before. So much so that our good pal Benjamin Allbright of Pro Football Network had this to say regarding the prospect of Tua Tagovailoa reuniting with his favorite target in 2021.
“That’s the one you can probably put in pencil right now is DeVonta Smith to the Dolphins, so I’m not moving off that at all. He’s very intelligent and understands that even though he’s not going to be playing, this is an opportunity to get in front of that coaching staff and make his case.”
